About Raising Our Children (ROC)

Message from the President, Founder & Director

Julie Jackson

What is your ROC (pronounced rok)?  Definition of ROC – that which makes you strong and what gives you hope.  My ROC is my higher power, my family, and the board members of this nonprofit organization.  ROC is an acronym for “Raising Our Children.” We are dedicated to improving the lives of children.  We strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and we want to be the village for children that do not have a strong support system.

ROC was founded in May 2005.  The vision for the ROC is to open up outreach centers that will provide: free counseling, parenting classes, mentoring, tutoring, and arts such as music, dance, drawing/painting, and drama to children.

The ROC staff has expertise in: psychology, engineering, computer information systems, banking, law, education, accounting, business, art, and nonprofit management.  We are all dedicated to the betterment of children’s lives.

Since we're in the initial phase of development of our organization, our focus has been to develop name recognition in the community by providing services so that when a physical location is established,  the community will recognize us and seek our services.

  • Last year we collected 2 boxes (one of toiletries and one of teddy bears) for Hurricane Katrina victims.  We sent the donations to Pro-Vision School in Houston, Texas, which provided service to Hurricane Katrina Victims.

  • We are currently collecting coats and toys for inner-city children for our 2nd year and will donate them to M.W. St. John Grand Lodge, which provides service to the Southside of Chicago.

As we raise funds to complete the legal requirements of establishing our 501(c)3 status and to develop our programs, any support or assistance in this journey would be appreciated.
